About

The mission

Forecast Colorado is the definitive portal for the Centennial State's weather and climate — built to make the official National Weather Service forecast fast, clean, and highway-clear for all 64 counties, from the eastern high plains to the Continental Divide.

Colorado's weather is written by its terrain: Front Range blizzards and upslope snow, the hail capital of America, tornadoes on the eastern plains, downslope Chinook winds, monsoon thunderstorms over the 14ers, and a fire season that follows the drought. Forecast Colorado is being built to tell that whole story — county by county, region by region.

The design language

The look borrows from the American Interstate system — the reflective paper, the green guide signs, the blue service signs, the brown recreation signs, and the red-white-and-blue route shields — set in Overpass, the typeface drawn from the Highway Gothic lettering on those signs. Colorado takes a cool granite paper and a mountain-majesty purple accent — for the purple mountains that America the Beautiful was written about, on Pikes Peak.

Companions & the network

Colorado is a Mountain West outpost of the network. Its state-line neighbors aren't live yet, but Forecast California, Florida, Georgia and Alabama are all part of the same system — and as the map fills in, the companions will interlock here too.
